Bakang shared treatment and management experiences at the 5th International Keloid Symposium

From June 6 to 8, 2025, the 5th International Keloid Symposium was held in Shanghai, China. Top experts from the global scar medicine field gathered to discuss cutting-edge treatment pathways and long-term management mechanisms for keloids.

As a leading institution in scar prevention and treatment in China, Dr. Sun Bianyou, founder of Bakang Medical, and Dr. He Wen from Chengdu Bakang were invited to attend the conference and presented a keynote report titled "Introduction to the Treatment and Management Experience of Tens of Thousands of Keloid Cases at Bakang Medical." They systematically presented the keloid treatment and management system that has been iterated over more than a decade on the Bakang Medical platform.

Addressing Key Scientific Questions in Open Discussions

In the "Open Discussion" session of the conference, Dr. Sun Bianyou, one of the five representatives of the Chinese expert group, shared his views with domestic and international experts on three key questions: "What is a keloid?", "Why is it difficult to cure and prone to recurrence?", and "What are the main pathogenic mechanisms?".

Ten Thousand Case-Based Systematic Closed-Loop Treatment Chain

Bakang has served tens of thousands of keloid patients over the past two decades and is one of the earliest institutions in China to implement "contracted treatment" and "efficacy commitment". The report points out that, compared to the traditional "one-time treatment" model, Bakang focuses more on a systematic approach to "long-term control and preventing recurrence":

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Integrating experts from dermatology, burn surgery, plastic surgery, radiology, rehabilitation therapy, and psychological counseling;

  • Multimodal Combination: Based on superficial radiotherapy for recurrence control, combining drug injections, laser treatments, punch excision, excision and suturing, corectomy, and full-thickness skin grafting as needed;

  • Clear Stage Goals: From inflammation control → regression assessment → dynamic follow-up → recurrence prevention management;

  • Data-Driven Optimization: Building a comprehensive database based on medical records, follow-ups, and photos to continuously optimize treatment plans.

Follow-Up System Draws Attention

Bakang Calls for Industry Consensus

Dr. He Wen from Chengdu Bakang highlighted the follow-up management platform that Bakang has built over decades. This system, through regular online photo tracking, symptom change recording, and remote intervention, effectively monitors the risk of keloid recurrence:

04

  • Reducing Patient Anxiety: Answering patient questions during follow-ups to reduce excessive visits due to concerns about recurrence;

  • Early Inflammation Detection: Identifying and intervening in new inflammations (such as acne, folliculitis) to prevent new scar formation;

  • Identifying Recurrence Signals: Addressing symptoms like redness, itching, and changes in hardness promptly to prevent recurrence expansion;

  • Personalized Reintervention: Implementing low-dose reinforcement treatment based on data analysis results to achieve high-standard control.

Several attending experts expressed agreement with Bakang's follow-up mechanism, suggesting that the "treatment + follow-up" model should be included in the standard consensus system for keloid diagnosis and treatment, forming a long-term sustainable closed-loop treatment path.

Building a Mutual Assistance Platform to Help Patients Avoid Pitfalls

While continuously optimizing the treatment system, Bakang Medical also focuses on emotional support and information exchange for patients during their medical journey. To this end, they initiated and established a "Scar Support Group", inviting experienced patient volunteers to share their real treatment experiences, recovery feelings, and precautions with new patients.

05

This platform not only helps new patients understand the treatment process and expectations more realistically but also enhances trust and empathy among patients, helping more people avoid pitfalls, intervene early, and seek scientific treatment.

Scientific Treatment · Public Welfare First

Committed to Reducing Burn-Related Disability and Disfigurement in China

While introducing the scar management system, the report also reviewed Bakang's long-term investment in burn prevention education. Since 2014, Dr. Sun Bianyou, the founder of Bakang Medical, and national first-class actor Hu Yajie established the "Burn Care Public Welfare Fund". Over 11 years, they have continuously promoted children's burn prevention education in 30 provinces, cities, and counties across the country, reaching 758 counties, 100+ hospitals, and 700+ public welfare organizations, building a public health defense line from prevention to treatment.

06

This public welfare action has been included in national policy documents such as the "China Child Development Outline," the "Protection of Minors Law," and the "Life Safety and Health Education Curriculum Guidelines," demonstrating Bakang's social responsibility in using industry strength to "reduce the number of scar patients at the source."

Three Things for Thirty Years

Building a Chinese Scar Management System with Professionalism

From "individual efficacy assurance" to "group standardized management" to "public health gatekeeper," Bakang has always focused on three things: improving keloid treatment outcomes; promoting the implementation of a scientific follow-up system; and conducting burn prevention public education.

As Dr. Sun Bianyou said in his speech: "We believe that doing one thing well can change a person; persisting in three things can change an industry."

07

Bakang is committed to being patient-centered, efficacy-focused, and responsible, working with global peers to build a more systematic, efficient, and humane scar management solution.
