President Sun Bianyou was invited to share his experience in the standardized construction of specialized chain practices at the 2nd China Scar Treatment Technology Advancement Conference.

From June 5 to 7, 2026, the Second China Scar Treatment Technology Progress Conference was held in Shanghai. The conference focused on the advancement of scar treatment technology, standardized diagnosis and treatment, multidisciplinary collaboration, and long-term patient management. During the conference, Dr. Sun Bianyou, founder of Bakang Medical, shared insights on the theme of "How Specialized Chains Can Achieve Scale and Standardization."

[Revisiting the Significance of Specialized Chains from the Perspective of Disease Characteristics]

Dr. Sun mentioned in his presentation that in the early days, Bakang only had one clinic in Beijing, and many out-of-town patients had to travel long distances for treatment. For conditions like keloids and hypertrophic scars, treatment often requires continuous intervention, regular follow-ups, and long-term monitoring.

1

These diseases are characterized by a long course, high recurrence rates, long treatment cycles, and high management requirements. Whether patients can receive timely treatment, continue with follow-ups, and detect changes early and handle them promptly, all affect the subsequent management outcomes. Therefore, scar treatment is not just about having the right technology but also ensuring that patients can conveniently and continuously receive standardized care.

In this context, Bakang gradually established branches in Chengdu, Wuhan, and Guangzhou. The significance of these four clinics is not just about expanding the scale, but rather based on the characteristics of scar diseases such as "high recurrence, need for continuity, and emphasis on follow-up," to ensure long-term efficacy through regional layout, allowing patients to receive relatively standardized and continuous specialized services closer to home, thereby reducing interruptions in treatment due to distance and time, which can affect treatment outcomes.

[What Specialized Chains Replicate Is Not Form, But Standards of Care]

Dr. Sun emphasized in his sharing that what specialized chains truly need to replicate is not the style of decoration, promotional language, or the number of clinics, but rather a standard system that ensures medical quality and patient experience.

To achieve this goal, Bakang has focused on building five key areas in practice:

  • Unified Diagnostic and Treatment Pathways: Establishing clear processes for initial assessment, treatment plans, and follow-up visits;
  • Doctor Training and Evaluation Mechanisms: Ensuring consistency in diagnostic and operational standards across different clinics;
  • Efficacy Documentation and Data Management: Enhancing the objectivity of treatment evaluations through imaging, measurements, and follow-up records;
  • Patient Education: Helping patients understand the purpose, process, and precautions of treatment;
  • Long-Term Follow-Up: Ensuring that post-treatment observation and management are not neglected.

[Emphasizing Long-Term Follow-Up, Extending Treatment to Rehabilitation Management]

Scar treatment is not just a single outpatient visit, surgery, or laser treatment. Especially for keloids and hypertrophic scars, these conditions often have a long course, high recurrence rates, and require continuous observation. Therefore, post-treatment follow-up management is a key component that Bakang consistently emphasizes in its service system.

Dr. Sun introduced that Bakang has established a corresponding follow-up mechanism. After treatment, patients can enter a follow-up management process based on their doctor's recommendations, regularly uploading photos and undergoing re-evaluations to help doctors understand the trends in scar changes and identify potential issues early.

3

Long-term follow-up is not a guarantee of treatment efficacy, but it is a more comprehensive and responsible way of providing medical services. Through continuous observation and timely reminders, doctors can pay earlier attention to changes in the patient's recovery process, and patients can better understand the importance of daily care, follow-up management, and long-term rehabilitation.

[Extending from Treatment to Prevention, Focusing on Burn and Scald Injury Education]

In addition to scar treatment and follow-up management, Dr. Sun also discussed the importance of burn and scald injury prevention education. The impact of scars from burns and scalds on children and their families can be profound, and some injuries can be mitigated or prevented through proper prevention and first aid knowledge.

4

Dr. Sun proposed a three-level prevention concept for burns and scalds in China, with the vision of "reducing one more burn or scald victim and increasing one more happy family," aiming to prevent avoidable injuries from causing disabilities and disfigurement.

  • Primary Prevention: Emphasizing "before the event," reducing the risk of burns and scalds through safety education in homes, schools, and kindergartens;
  • Secondary Prevention: Emphasizing "during the event," promoting basic first aid knowledge such as "flush, remove, soak, cover, and send" to reduce the likelihood of further harm;
  • Tertiary Prevention: Emphasizing "after the event," controlling the consequences of injuries through wound management, scar prevention, rehabilitation training, and long-term follow-up.

For specialized medical institutions that deal with burn and scald scars, treating existing scars is a responsibility, and so is preventing avoidable injuries, which is a social responsibility they should bear.

[Patient-Centered, Continuously Improving Standardized Service System]

This special sharing session is part of Bakang Medical's participation in industry academic exchanges. As a private specialized medical institution, Bakang aims to learn from experts and peers about standardized diagnosis and treatment experiences, and to share its own phased practices in specialized clinic operations, patient follow-up, and public preventive measures.

In the future, Bakang Medical will continue to adhere to the principle of "patient-centered" and focus on scar prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up, continuously improving diagnostic and treatment processes, service standards, and long-term management systems. Bakang will maintain an open, pragmatic, and rigorous attitude in industry exchanges, converting the gains from academic conferences into more robust patient service capabilities.
