Preventing Burns and Scalds in Children: Chengdu Bakaang in Action

Article / BaKang     6-1-2025

On May 25, 2025, in the Chengdu Bakang meeting room, 25 families from the Chengdu Human Resources Research Association's Famous Schools Talent Development Professional Committee (abbreviated as "LCC Famous Schools Association") and volunteer platforms participated in a "Burn Prevention Hospital Public Education" event.

This event was initiated by the China Social Welfare Foundation's Burn Care Public Welfare Fund, co-organized by Chengdu Bakang and LCC Global Famous Schools Association. Through an immersive experience combining "drama + games + laboratory," it aimed to deeply instill safety knowledge in children.

Startling Data: Burns are not accidents but preventable oversights

"Among the 26 million burn patients in China each year, 40% are children, and 85% of these occur in family settings under parental supervision." This data is from the 2019 Burn Academic Annual Conference Data Report.

Burns bring not only immediate pain but also lifelong challenges:

  • Hypertrophic scars can lead to disfigurement and disability, affecting education, employment, and even marriage;

  • Family conflicts and economic burdens make the road to recovery even more difficult.

Dr. Ao Xiang, Director of Chengdu Bakang Clinic, emphasized: "The significance of prevention far outweighs treatment; a moment of negligence can cause a lifetime of trauma."

Event Highlights: A Magical Journey from "Fear of Danger" to "Knowing How to Protect"

A highlight of the event was the forest-themed children's play "I Can Protect Myself" performed by the children of Chengdu Bakang employees.

On stage, the children transformed into adorable forest animals, engaging in a fierce dramatic conflict with the evil "Scalding Monster." Through the lively and engaging plot, the children skillfully integrated burn first aid knowledge into the story.

When the "Scalding Monster" used its high-temperature magic to harm the animals, the characters in the play responded calmly, demonstrating the correct steps for first aid: rinse, remove, soak, cover, and send. The children's outstanding performance not only won applause from the audience but also deeply ingrained safety knowledge in their minds.
